The Condition

What male pattern baldness actually is.

Male pattern baldness — clinically known as androgenetic alopecia — is the most common form of male hair loss. It typically begins with a receding hairline at the temples, progresses to thinning at the crown, and over time can lead to significant hair loss across the entire top of the scalp.

It's hereditary and progressive. By age 50, two thirds of Australian men will have noticeable hair loss. The pattern is predictable, the timeline isn't, and traditional treatments (medication, scalp serums, even hair transplants) only ever address part of the problem.

Scalp micropigmentation is different. Microscopic deposits of organic, carbon-based pigment are placed into the upper layer of the scalp to replicate the appearance of real hair follicles. The result is the look of a full, sharp, freshly-shaved head — sharp at the hairline, even across the crown, and natural enough that nobody can tell.

Why SMP, for Male Pattern Baldness

The reasons clients pick this.

01

Permanent, not progressive

Hair loss doesn't keep happening to the area treated. The result you walk out with is the result you have for years.

02

Custom hairline design

Every hairline is custom-designed in your consultation. Age-appropriate, face-appropriate, and built around your features. Not a template.

03

Full coverage in one go

Works equally well for early-stage recession and advanced baldness. Sessions are scaled to the area treated.

04

No surgery, no recovery

Walk in with hair loss, walk out looking different. Back to work the next day. No medication needed.

Common Questions

Questions about male pattern baldness.

Will SMP look like a tattoo on my head?

No. SMP uses microscopic needles and organic pigments specifically formulated to replicate the look of real hair follicles. When done by an experienced artist, it's genuinely indistinguishable from a freshly-shaved head — even close up.

What if my hair loss keeps progressing?

Common concern, and a fair one. We design every treatment with future loss in mind. If new areas of recession appear over the years, we can blend them in during your touch-up sessions.

Can I have SMP if I've already had a hair transplant?

Absolutely. SMP works brilliantly alongside hair transplants — adding density between transplanted follicles, concealing donor-area scarring, or extending coverage beyond what the transplant could reach.

Will I have to keep shaving my head?

Yes — SMP works on a shaved or very short-cropped scalp. Most clients are already shaving, and the SMP makes that look intentional and sharp rather than a cover-up.

How sharp can the hairline look?

As sharp as you want. We design hairlines from natural and soft (broken-up, age-appropriate) to crisp and defined. The choice is yours, and we'll show you mockups before any pigment goes down.
